Hello Mills Families,
As we prepare to head into winter break, we want to share an upcoming adjustment to the daily schedule that will begin when students return on Monday, January 5.
Last spring, our school day was extended by 14 minutes to make up instructional time after a high number of snow days. That extended schedule continued into this year based on the information and feedback we had at the time.
Over the fall, it has become clear that the longer school day has reduced the time teachers have for planning, preparation, and important meetings, such as IEPs, without interrupting classroom instruction. After reviewing the impact, the district will return to the previous daily schedule starting January 5. This means the school day will be 14 minutes shorter than it has been so far this year.
Mills Elementary’s school day will now end at 3:00 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. On Wednesdays, the school day will end at 2:00 PM. The school day start time will remain unchanged.
We know that mid-year changes can create challenges for families, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you for your understanding and partnership as we make this adjustment to better support teaching and learning.

Mientras nos preparamos para las vacaciones de invierno, queremos compartirles un ajuste próximo al horario diario que comenzará cuando los estudiantes regresen el lunes 5 de enero.
La primavera pasada, nuestro horario escolar se extendió 14 minutos para compensar el tiempo de instrucción perdido debido a la gran cantidad de días de nieve. Ese horario extendido continuó este año basándonos en la información y los comentarios que teníamos en ese momento.
Durante el otoño, se hizo evidente que el horario escolar más largo ha reducido el tiempo que los maestros tienen para planificar, preparar clases y asistir a reuniones importantes, como las de los Programas de Educación Individualizada (IEP), sin interrumpir la instrucción en el aula. Después de revisar el impacto, el distrito regresará al horario diario anterior a partir del 5 de enero. Esto significa que el horario escolar será 14 minutos más corto de lo que ha sido hasta ahora este año.
El horario escolar de la Escuela Primaria Mills ahora terminará a las 3:00 p. m. los lunes, martes, jueves y viernes. Los miércoles, el horario escolar terminará a las 2:00 p. m. La hora de inicio del horario escolar se mantendrá sin cambios.
